In our home, we have been trying to incooperate mindfulness in our daily lives, with the children and ourselves as parents. Mindfulness allows us to be present in our parenting.
Mindfulness is simply acknowledging what is happening inside you and around you at this present moment. In the modern era we live in where days, weeks and months whizz by, endless pressure and our minds are bombarded with information 24/7, it is extremely important to slow down.
Not so long ago, Mindfullness was deemed as being ‘new age’ and ‘hippy’ however, there has become immense interes in it as research has proved its benefits are immense.
However Mindfullness is not new, the concepts of it are very much rooted in Islam. Prayer itself can be a form of meditation, it comprises of mindful movements and the humility we sense in bring infront of our creator. The character of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) reflected being mindful. He was always engaged in the present moment and gave everyone His full attention.
Mindfullness for children increases and encourages:
- Focus and calm
- Positivity and kindness
- To slow down
- Regulate emotions
- Cognitive focus
It allows children to become self-aware and self regulate, which means they become aware of their thought procrsses and reactions. This allows them to become in charge of their emotions and behaviours.
Do I even need to ask if you want this for your children? ?
